Other than that you can create knitted diamonds. This is done by progressively moving several stitches to the right or left which will create a diagonal raised line on the fabric.

For Lace knitting, it is simply a combination of purl stitches and plain along with series of holes which make the lacy pattern. In order to make a hole, you move the yarn in front of your needle before knitting the next stitch. This will create an extra loose stitch.

Just to make sure you don’t make too many stitches, you knit the 2 stitches together bringing the stitch count back to the original.
